Welcome to Backworth Male Voice Choir!

Backworth is a small village in North Tyneside, situated about 3 ½ miles inland from Whitley Bay on the North East coast of England. The original part of Backworth, commonly referred to as the village, contains a number of cottages dating back to the 19 Century. Backworth was a centre of coal mining throughout the 19 Century and into much of the 20 Century. As late as 1950 nearly 3000 people were employed in the collieries both in Backworth and its immediately vicinity. In 1980 the last pit, Eccles Colliery, closed after 165 years of mining. Backworth Choir was founded by local miners in 1951 and although the pits are long-gone, the Choir is still very active and its members now come from all walks of life. So why not come along to one of our concerts?
